If the chi is yelping in fear or pain, then it is too rough and needs to be stopped. A doberman can easily hurt a fragile dog like a chi, so play has to be monitored carefully.

my dogs do this and they bark which is normal. when one yelps we pull the two apart. if your dogs are being too agressive and one is yellping it might be the time to tep in. watch them closely when they play together.

I have several chihuahuas from two pounds up to 8lbs. I also have 3 Pyrenees. Sometimes you just have keep the big dogs together, away from the little ones until they learn how to play together. My biggest female is WONDERFUL with the little ones. They adore her. My smallest chihuahua sleeps on top of her most of the time. The male has learned to be good with them, but can still get a little rough when they play. You just have to monitor them. The youngest pyr is only about 25lbs, and doesn’t hurt the little ones at this point. But she will need to learn to be careful as she grows. It is just a learning process, and you have to watch them as they play to make sure they learn to be careful.
Since you only have the two dogs, you might consdier a third one to be an acceptable playmate for the large dobie. He wants to play with someone who he won’t hurt. I know my pyrs love to play together because they just cannot jump on the chihuahuas or roll them like they can each other.

A puppy, the baby doberman does not know how to be gentle with anything if he is too young so you have to teach him and let him know it is not okay to be rough with the chi. A Chi is too small for a Dobbie as a playmate and can get stepped on/hurt easily..why would you ever put a Dobbie and a Chi together? I just want to say good luck and I hope your Chi does not get hurt.

yes that is a big problem just the size alone of the two. your chihuahua can be hurt very easily. My girlfriend got a mix lab and he’s a big boy and is only a puppy and her other older dog of 10 years is a wiener dog and yelps and crys when the puppy sits on her bites her ears and jumps all over her. I have told my friend its a bit to rough but her thinking is if it bothers the other small dog he’ll move. well thats not good enough. one day you’[ll come home and the little dogs back will be broken or a limb etc..

You need to catch the bigger dog in the act and spank him and tell him no. each time he’s rough with the little guy make sure you get on his back emediately and let him know who’s boss and that he can’t play that way. end of story.
