Is a papillion a good first dog?

By admin

I like a papillion and chihuahuas and many more small dog breeds or mixed breeds. I really want a first dog that can do some tricks I learned in a class with my neighbor’s dog. If a papillion is not a good starter dog then can you name a different type of small dog breed. If it is a good starter dog breed can you give me info on the dog and or links of how to care for one. If I do find a good small breed like a papillion or one small breed you tell me about I would look at the shelter for one first to see if they have a papillion or other dog, that is if my parents let me get one!!!! Thanks!

Just go to a shelter around you and find a dog you connect with! Remember it may not be what you expect….but that will be the right dog for you!

A papillion is a wonderful first time breed. They are very intelligent and playful, fairly easy to groom and usually good with other dogs and children.
I compete with my dogs in agility and obedience and I’ve seen lots of Papillions do so well :)

Sure a papillion is a great first dog. Check out the shelter first. Sometimes you will see a dog, no matter what the breed and fall in love. Heres a site that has lots of information on many different breeds of dogs: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com

any dog is a good first dog as long as u devote ur time to it. any dog can be a bad dog if the time is not devoted. i dont think very much of papillions on the intellectual side of things, but i have a staff who it is the thickest thing in the world, she cannot do a single trick, she could but it is stubborness, but that is the best bit about her, she has so much character.

Papillions are one of the smartest dogs around. They are great pets, and are easy to train. I have two Papillion mixes, a Papillion/Pom and a Papillion/Maltese. I would look at a shelter or rescue because it is much easier to start out with a dog that is already house broken, and most dogs that are a little older will be used to going outside.

A rescue dog usually will be a true friend for life because they appreciate what you have done and love you more than you can imagine. You can save a life and you see what the dog will be like before you take it home. With a puppy it is hard to tell what their personality will be like and that is why so many people get rid of their dogs. They get dogs that are not good matches for their households.

Good luck with your first dog. I’m sure if you go to a shelter or through a rescue you will find a little dog to love who will love you back.

Papillons are great starter dogs! I have one myself. They are very friendly, but I have noticed that they tend to attach to one person. That might be a good thing if it’s going to be your dog and not a family dog.

They are also very smart, which is good if you want to train it tricks. I’ve read that they don’t bark much, but mine barks all the time. :P

As for exercise, they should have daily walks, but they don’t need to be very long walks.

They do need to brushed and groomed daily, especially their “butterfly” ears.
