Be prepared for heartache when they finally pass away-had my last for 18 years! Like they were always with you! The Pap I got after she died is another character and I promised myself I wouldn't let my self in for that heart ache again....here we go! He's only 1 1/2 so we got lots more years together! My dog loves my cats but he gets jealous when I play with them. Just make sure you train your Papillon to not chase the cats and you're set. As for gender, I'd get a boy. It will be much easier bringing in a male dog. If you were to get a female, your dog would become very territorial. The only thing is, maybe wait to get the new dog just because your cat is so old.
