My neighbor used to have two. They got rid of the first one a few years ago because it was terrified of the kids- it always hid and was really nervous.

They’re currently looking for a home for the second because it bites if the kids are too rough with it by mistake. The kids are 2 boys, ages 7 and 4.

If you raise it with kids then chances are it will be nice to the kids. It is great that it is still a pup because you have a chance to raise it your own way. Don’t listen to what the breed is like. It will be your dog so it will act the way it was raised.

Not so much ‘bad’ with kids, but less child-tolerant than some other breeds. As long as the child is taught to properly interact with the dog, and the dog is taught how to properly interact with the child, and ALL interactions are supervised by an adult, then there shouldn’t be a problem

That is not true at all.
Papillions are quite the opposite.
They are sweet dogs.
Someone might have thought that they are not the best dogs for small children because there are so small and could get hurt.
Explain to you child that they have to be very gentle with the “baby”.
Good Luck!

since you’re getting it from an irresponsible dog owner, rather than a responsible dog breeder — chances are it won’t be socialized good enough with kids and/or that it will have temperament issues due to bad breeding.

Papillions are not BAD with kids, it just depends on how the owner trains him/her. As with most small dogs, though; you must make sure your child doesn’t roughhouse with it or it may show aggression.

I own Papillons and they are great with kids. They are not hyper like many small dogs. All puppies are fragile, so you do need to make sure that your child does not mistreat the puppy. Many do if you don’t make sure they know the rules for handling a puppy. AND you need to make sure the rules are followed. A child of 6 should not be left alone with a puppy.

Yes, they are generally kid-friendly. However, that depends on training and care. They are very affectionate too. More of Papillon here,
