Papillon Dog Video – Who’s Here?
By
Our puppy has learned some strange commands. “Who’s that” means there’s someone or something interesting near the house, and Sophie needs to investigate. “Who’s here” means there’s someone coming into the house. Either way, she goes nuts. She’s our princess!

Hi, this is “wonton00″, I just started a new page for my papillon Mickey. Check out the videos on my page. Mickey is 8 months now.

I thought I was the only one who did that to my dog. I like to say, “Who’s at the door?” and my dog goes nuts!!! I love it!

She’s 100% Papillon. Registered and pedigreed. She’s definitely larger than most, though some of that comes from her stealing her brother’s food. We try to keep that to a minimum, but he hardly eats a thing.

Are you sure she is a pedigree?
Looks a little off for a papillon?
Cute though
The cat is gorgeous!

I can’t say we’ve had that experience. The only thing even close to that was a spider bite (happened twice). Sophie got really itchy for a day and her face swelled up. A few very low doses of Benadryl did the trick.
If the vet doesn’t find anything, I’d let it be. If you get the sense that scratching his ears feels good, then give his ears a little extra attention. I’m sure everything’s fine (but I’m no vet, so don’t take this as medical advice!
).

My 4 months pap has been scratching his ears a lot the last few days. He shakes his head, scratches his ears, even whines a little. We took him to the vet and they could not find anything. They sedated him so they can look into both ears carefully and his ears are clean, no water, no mite, no wax, absolutely clean. Could it be that the itching come from the new hair grown in and around his ears at 4-5 months of age? Do you have that experience with your pap when they were pups?

My puppy is now about 4.2 pounds. He is much smaller than his other two siblings. I hope he doesn’t get much more than 7 pounds.

Yes, I recall you getting him. I’ve heard 6-10 lb. and 8-12 lb. from different sources. Sophie is fully (over)grown at ~14 lb., and Max is now 8-1/2 months old and he’s roughly 4.5 lb. and will probably barely reach five. Check the weights of the parents. That’s a good indicator. It seem (though I have no evidence) that smaller litters produce smaller dogs, and vice versa. Sophie came from a litter of 4. Max was a litter of 1. So there you have it

I have a three a half months old papillon. How large to they get when full grown? Twice the size they are now or more?

Excellent point, we will try it. If the dog associates crate to us leaving, that would be wonderful. We named him Mickey, he is very attached to my wife.

When we trained Sophie and Max, we found it was perfectly fine to let them on the bed during crate training. YMMV, but it worked fine for us. They seem to associate the crate with their humans leaving, without any confusion. Max and Sophie bolt into their crates when they see us putting on shoes or coats. They know when it’s time to go to their rooms.
What did you name him?

I live in an apartment and I am crate training him now. I don’t mind him sleeping on my bed at all but the problem is, soon he will have to be without us in a crate for about 4 hours a day in the morning. So we are trying to get him used to the crate so he doesn’t cream and yell when alone at home. Needless to say, my wife and I have been sleepless the last two nights
) Super smart puppy and he’s so attached… follows my wife everywhere around the house, stays close to her feet.

Congratulations – upload a video sometime soon! Make the decision now whether he gets to sleep on the bed or not (ours do). Once you decide, there’s no going back

I just took home a 3 months male papillon. He’s a hand full and soooo cute.

Sophie is 2-1/2. We got her when she was 11 weeks old. She’s large for the breed, mostly because her parents were large, and she tends to get into Max’s food as well as her own (we feed them in their crates now).
She was a very easy puppy to raise, and she is an absolute angel.

How old is Sophie and did you get her when she was a puppy?
June 30th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Yes – no smell or oily hair at all. We didn’t realize this until after we got our first one, but it’s definitely a bonus

I also love the fact that they are free (almost) of that doggie odor. Perfect for an apartment dweller like myself. I am looking for one now…

Papillon’s are especially prone to prancing when they’re really happy. It’s almost like they want to break out in a run, but they’re trying to control themselves, and the end result is a lively little step that is very much a trademark of this and a few other breeds. They are wonderful, intelligent, VERY low maintenance dogs. I highly recommend considering one.

Question, my wife and I visited a friend that had a female papillon. Gorgeous dog and what we loved about is that when she walks, she actually prance… really classy and cute. Is that normal for paps, that they prance?
