What could this bump be on my dog?

By

My Shetland Sheepdog has this bump on her side; it’s kind of like a pimple, only about three or four times bigger. If you squeeze it, a lot of puss comes out. I talked to my vet about it, but she didn’t seem to be concerned about it…but didn’t explain what it was, either. I don’t really care for my vet, and I’m considering switching, but does anyone know what this is or if it should be removed?

Shelties are prone to sebaceous cysts, this is more than likely what it is, and is nothing to worry about.
I would find a vet that will talk to you and not act like you are stupid for wanting to know.

I would definatly switch Vets.

It could be a number of things, so get a second opinion from another Vet.

could be a cyst, which are normally harmless, but they don’t usually puss. could just be an ingrown hair or a small cut that is infected. doesn’t sound life threatining, but you should definetly have your vet, or the one you switch to, figure out what it is, and come up with a treatment, if one is needed.

Switch vets NOW and have the dog seen!

It could be an abcess. I would find another vet if you’re not comfortable with the one you have. You pay them to take care of your pet, you should be comfortable with the way they practice. If you don’t feel that the vet is acting in the best interest of your pet, find a new one.

sounds like an infection, could be abscess. If that is the case, your dog needs antibiotics and maybe needs to be drained. I agree with you, I would find another Vet. I am guessing, your vet would be able to Dx and treat.

Try to go on line about your breed. Own two dogs, change Vet, now!!!!!!

It sounds like a cyst but cant be sure change your vet to one that cares

My cat had the same type of “pimple” after he had fought with another cat. It could be some type of infected cut. Puss is a sign of some type of infection. It may heal by itself, but to be safe, go see another vet and get their opinion. When my cat had the same type of problem, he had to get the the cut cleaned and drained.

A lump can be anything a cyst, papillomas, tender knots, warts, hematomas or cancer. The best thing to do is take the dog to the vet and have him examine and evaluate it.

If you do not like your vet, you should definitely look for another one that you will be more comfortable with.

Hey take it out ASAP !! Puss is dead cells or blood. It has to be removen because then it can go to the brain and damage it. Her skin can fall off. TAKE IT OUT IMMEDIDLY. CHANGE YOUR VET TOO SHE DOESN’T KNOW ANYTHING. i HOPE i HELPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I’m hardly any expert on cysts or tumors, but my best advice on this one is to switch vets NOW. I can’t tell you how important it is to have a vet that will discuss things with you when something goes wrong and give a thorough explanation to you about any concerns on the dog’s health. If they can’t discuss or explain about common health concerns, where will you be if someday the dog has a major health issue?

It’s just like shopping around for your own doctor and just as important!
