What kind of dog(s) do you own and how did you obtain them?

By

Did you git them from a breeder, shelter, rescue… and what kind of dog(s) is it purebred? mutt?

I have 2 dogs, an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog (Charlotte) and a Australian Cattle Dog (Missy) mix. I got Char when the ranch I worked for when bankrupted and they had to get rid of everything including their dogs so I asked for her and gave her to me lol. I got Missy at the pound. She was going to be euthanized the next day if no one took her.

I have 2 dogs
1 pure bred Pomeranian- AKC registered and bought him from a breeder.
1 pure bred Miniature Pinscher- Got her from the local animal shelter.

2

I have 1 dog, my first dog ever
Maltese X bichon (10 weeks old)- I got him from a breeder online (but i visited the breeder and saw the parents before buying). I named him Charlie.

He’s a mutt

My family and I have had:
Brittany, gift of puppy from family, from a breeder
Keeshond, retired show dog, from the breeder
German Shepherd, from a family
German Shepherd mix, stray we kept
Labrador/Pitbull/SharPei mix, puppies given away by a family at the school driveway (sneaky!)
Chi-terrier mutt, shelter rescue (older dog unlikely to be adopted)
Cockapoo, friend’s puppies

It’s great you were able to get both of your dogs. Missy is especially lucky you saved her. Shelter dogs are the way to go!

I have 2 dogs as well.
1 is a pit bull full bred from my sisters dog litter. (not sure he’s 100%purebred tho)
my second dog is a pup actually i just got her last night, i can tell she is a mutt but i took her out of the ghetto for $50. i think she is mixed with pit bull and german shepard or german shepard and white labrador. I think its great you rescued missy. God Bless.

My family has owned numerous rescue animals, but when my hubby and I decided to get dogs of our own we wanted to know what we were getting ourselves into with each breed. So when I got my pom I did research on both the breed and the breeder so that I made sure of what I was buying. I have a pom and a Chesapeake bay retriever that both cam from working breeders.

I use to have a Golden Lab but she had pancreatic cancer so had to be put down, we got her from the breeder papers and all.

I currently have a Black Lab, who is about two and a half, we got her free to good home, shes the biggest sweetheart ever, good with kids, good with people in general, does what shes told, is a little bit cheeky, (will creep closer to you for cuddles) and shes also a cuddle freak. Couldnt ask for a better dog, personally her temprament is that fantastic that its a shame that we dont have her papers (she is pure) and its a shame the old owners got her fixed. I dont want to breed heaps of dogs or anything, but she has such a good temprament, and shes such a good family dog, It would be very hard to find another dog like her i think. She does dig holes in the back yard tho…..

And I also have a two year old Border Collie Blue Merle tri colour, hes an absolute sweetheart, Goes mad for squeeky toys and the ball, hes a big sook loves his cuddles, he diddnt really have any training before i got him but he has come along well i hope to take him out and do some agility and herding and tracking when im phsically able too. He was also free to good home, hes a dork and likes to dig holes and bury his bones..

I have a border collie, i rescued him out of the death row cage at a dog pound. He was a hot MESS!!! No wonder no one wanted him!!

I had a friend who knew i was looking for a hot mess dog that no one else wanted, who lives down that way, and she told me about Buddy.
The dog pound was pretty sure he was from this nearby mass breeder, Buddy has ALLL the earmarks and damage of his other dogs ………..Criminal AKC breeder who sold mass quantities of “AKC registered” dogs…sigh, the AKC does NOT check on more than 5% of breeders, Look at this mess:

http://www.mysettersam.com/2009/10/ruff-report-dogs-and-rescue_14.html
Finally after registering THOSE dogs for years
and years
and years,
public pressure made AKC finally stop registering them, he was getting TOO infamous….
But AKC didn’t get involved to shut the place down, took more years of public outrage til guy had to close up. I hear he is back in business again…sigh.

when i got Buddy, he had more issues than Nat’l Geographic, he was covered with orangey marroon urine burns from living in the squalor above, a stench that took weeks of frequent bathing to get off, he was EMACIATED, bag of bones covered with fur like dried straw, covered with matts that had to be cut out, he was too weak to stand up very long, or even walk,…………and had wounds all over him, some were still bleeding…………… AND he had a gangsta attitude, too.

Growled at eveyone, nipped too. Glared around, Total gangsta. I said, “that is the dog for me, no one else would look twice at THAT dog!!”
now he is healthy, happy, loves Everyone, gorgeous, msucley, lively, outgoing happy and BUSY border collie who can run like the wind!! HE MAKES US LAUGH EVERY DAY, and we always come home happy, to witness his “Victory Laps” when we walk in, he just quivers and explodes into victory laps, we *could* train him not to, but we LOVE that about him, and even rearranged the furniture to give him more room, it is so cute!!!!!.
then he stops, in sphinx position, trying to look dignified, “What? i didn’t do anything crazy..”

and he “sings the blues” with a tv show song we have taped in the tv, and sometimes, when he wants to “sing”—– he will go stand in front of the tv, pressing his nose onto it, staring at it, waiting….
like a crazy frozen dog statue, hoping and hoping someone will turn on “his” song!!

so many cute things, like the way he herds his laundry baskets, and then, stores them (by hmself) each night under the dining room table.(?)
As if he’s put his “sheep” to bed for the night. We just leave them there, we think it’s precious he is so careful about his fake sheep.
He plays with them for hours, and has another set of “fake sheep” (laundy baskets) for the yard, too, he spends hours herding them around.

He knows agility, a bazillion tricks, evne a card trick!! cues, can pick out about 20 items by name, and is currently learning to “read”, ha ha, for real! Is cue-card trick.

He has his “babies” tiny lil stuffed toys that he carries around, licks them and keeps them between his paws a lot, nuzzles them, snuggles them against him, and keeps all those on his bed upstairs. He gazes at them a lot, too, as if they are moving.
(odd for a male dog, doncha think? but, living in a cage in breeder’s barn, 24/7, maybe baby care was only *nice* thing he ever saw)

He is very fussy about where different kinds of toys are stored, INteresting!!!
He loves to go in nirvana biting squeak toys on his back, holding them between his paws..
Besides all his quirks, though—–
He is a perfect gentlemen, He goes with us EVERYWHERE. zero behavior issues at all ( I LOVE READING about all these nightmare dogs all over this site, makes me go hug my good boy!!)

Everyone insists we had to have swapped out “that skanky dog” for this here beautiful and gentle dog we have now.

No troubles at all, except we are still working on his dog aggression, but, he is much much better, i’ve got a few assorted miracle to report. Ijust wanna pop when he walks by another dog calm as pie.
He still can’t do that for every dog, but, he’s a LOT better already.

He has some dog-pals he loves loves loves, but, some dogs honk him off, and he yells, “Ey ,you wanna piece of me?” but, we’re working on that one. He is trying his best. It’s fear based.

But, he has perfect recall, like steel, and doesn’t get into Anything he should not, never destructive, ever, perfectly well behaved everywhere we go, i’m so proud of him for geting past his 8 bazillion fears the way he did. 8 bazillion fears down, 1 fear left to go.

was a total heartwarming experience, watching him heal up.

i wouldn’t trade it for the world, and def would not trade if for a worthless piece of paper. There are no words for how proud i am of Buddy, and how much we love each other, just are no words at all to use.
we rescued Buddy, and then, he rescued us right back!!!

I have 2 dogs, a St. Bernard and a Japanese Spitz. I got them when my dad’s patient payed them for the medicines he bought. Lol, is that even legal?

9

Right now I own a Bulldog, English. I obtained him after 3 years of research and planning with his breeder. He is purebred, champion blood lined, and neutered!

Don't pity a shelter pet - Adopt one ♥

I don’t have a dog. But I’m going to adopt one from a shelter ^_^

11

I have 4 dogs

Gypsy Queen the Ridgeback/ Corgi mix I fostered her at 5 weeks after her litter had been found in the trash can. By the time she was 3 months old I couldn’t give her up lol.

Chopper I got at a rescue that ran out of Petco. I got him a few weeks after my Golden Maddy died.

Baxter is a Toy Poodle my mom got from a BYB (I was 12 and she now knows how bad it is).

And Shenzi is my new dog. We think she is a Border Collie mix. I got her from the shelter. She had been adopted out once and brought back because she chewed (of course what would you do when locked in a garage for 10 hours).

12

Ten amstaffs and two bullmastiffs.

Got 2 of my staffies imported from the UK, the rest are from litters I have had.

First bullmastiff is from GA Bullmastiffs as a pet quality dog. Second Bullmastiff is a rescue, this guy had him chained out in the front yard for “protection” and barely ever fed the dog. That’s the ghetto for ya.

13

I have a shih-poo and I got him from some people that never walked him, or took him outside, in the first 8 months of his life. So I have been working with him every day and he is doing very well :) His name is Pippin.

a mutt that was born near where I live.We are lifetime friends.
And my sister has a dog that’s part husky part wolf and I’m not sure where she got it.
