No one knows for sure. It all depends on how you train a dog. No dog is superior to another dog. All dogs are very intelligent in their own way.

draw. Both breeds represent a large number of special needs pets and drug dogs.

Canis Familiaris is the species (DOG) but the breeds are the specific types of dogs and anyway i think Goldens are smarter

Actually, dogs are technically not smart, they are instinctual, but both dogs have the same type of intelleligence per say.

It depends on who is training them really. I know labs that are smart and some that are dumber than a door knob! I like Golden’s more because they are calmer and easier to train.

They are both known to be intelligent breeds, but I do not think one breed is more intelligent than the other. That is going to vary dog to dog.

probably about the same–It all comes down to the certain dog. That is kind of like who is smarter; Japanese or Chinese. I don’t think they measure in a category like that for people, so why would they do that for dogs? It’s just my opinion, nothing personal to you or anybody else. =)

Catahoulas are the smartest breed! (But its really hard to live with them.)
Border Collies are very smart too, but they’re brown-nosey little sycophants.
Beagles, Pugs and Dalmations are among the most slow-witted. Just my opinion, of course.

Both equally intelligent on average I believe, labs being a little more high-energy, so would require different styles of trainng.
Also dog breeds aren’t different “species”.

I KNOW FOR SURE Moseller dogs are the smartest and have the best blood lines no matter what y/a say look it up for your self but make sure that you understand that they are breed to serve and have breed for thousands of years…. Moseller dogs

all dogs are the same specie.. different breeds are just different varieties among the specie… kinda like how all people are the same.. but you see common physical traits among certain ethnic groups, such as skin color.
Now thats cleared.. both of those are intelligent breeds. There are tests done by dog trainers, handlers and other professionals that rate the intelligence of dogs.. this is based of trainability, how eager the dog is to learn, how quickly he learns, etc. Some dogs are more eager to please, while others need someone who knows how to be an alpha.
All breeds are intelligent, and each has his own abilities.
The Border Collie and the Poodle are on the top of the intelligence lists. The list I looked at had the Golden listed at #4, and the Lab listed at #7.
